Yahoo Mail stopped working in the iPhone Mail app, keeps saying cannot verify account. Same on my iPad. The Yahoo website logs in fine with the same password. What changed?

Yahoo tightened third party app access, so the built-in Mail app needs fresh credentials.

Cleanest: delete the Yahoo account from iOS Settings, Mail, Accounts and re-add it choosing Yahoo. That routes sign-in through Yahoo's own page with proper tokens.

If it still refuses: generate an app password at Yahoo account security and use that in place of your normal password on the device.

Same fix applies to the iPad. Tokens are per device, do both.
Remove and re-add fixed both devices in five minutes. Solved.
