Moving from Yahoo webmail to Thunderbird on my desktop. IMAP shows the inbox fine but half my custom folders never appear no matter how long I wait. How do I get the full folder set across?

Yahoo IMAP hides some folders by default. In Thunderbird right click the account, pick Subscribe and tick every folder you want. That fixes most missing-folder cases.
If folders still refuse to sync, back up the account to MBOX with SysTools Yahoo Backup and import via Thunderbird's ImportExportTools NG add-on. That route brings everything regardless of IMAP quirks.
Subscribe dialog was the whole problem. All folders visible now. Solved.
