Our own old company reports carry a giant DRAFT watermark that was never removed before archiving. We need clean copies for an audit. The source Word files are long gone. Can the watermark come off the PDFs?

Since these are your own documents, yes. SysTools PDF Watermark Remover strips text and image watermarks in batch, and a DRAFT stamp is the textbook case since it sits on its own layer object. Underlying content is untouched.
Run the whole archive folder through in one pass. If any file has the watermark flattened into a scanned image rather than layered, that one needs manual editing instead, but layered stamps come off clean.
Whole folder cleaned in one batch, auditors got clean copies. Solved.
