Did You Know?

The Did You Know? page will be a frequent publication that will provide our membership with a greater insight to our players, teams, coaches, and club. We will also include information pertaining to youth, high school, college and professional soccer in general! I am almost positive that there will be a few out of the ordinary posts as well! We hope you enjoy the topics and feel free to suggest any ideas of your own!

Monday, October 20
Tammy Bailey looks like a professional golfer making her rounds in a golf cart at the Carolina FC Soccer Complex. That’s Tammy you see on Mondays, zipping from garbage can to garbage can, wrestling out the bulging bulky bags and slipping in sleek slick new ones.  Give her a thumb’s up or shout a thank you as she scoots around the complex. Better yet, stoop down and pick up that discarded candy wrapper or wad of tape, and drop it in the nearest garbage can. If you pick up the little stuff and Tammy totes the big stuff, we’ll have this place looking like Augusta National!
Tuesday, October 14
Like the shoemaker’s elves, two CFC volunteers busy themselves, quietly taking care of the Carolina FC soccer complex for you.  On most Mondays and Thursdays, you’ll find Karen Lodise and Chris Hamacek cleaning up the club house after a week’s worth of training and matches.  That’s a lot of grass clippings and Carolina clay!  Chris multi-tasks – supervising her kids as they do their homework in the conference room.  Their reward when they finish – they get to help clean!  Stop in and give Karen and Chris some help or a pat on the back.  They have Clubhouse Clean-up down to a science and will be delighted to put you to work.

The entire membership of Carolina FC will be mobilized to host South Carolina Youth Soccer’s Publix Presidents Medal and Recreation Cups November 7-9. CFC will host close to 100 U15-U18 club soccer teams from all over the state as they battle for the right to be crowned champions of their divisions. Tournament venues will be Carolina FC Soccer Complex, Pittman Park and Wenwood. CFC teams will be assigned to provide volunteer support at one of the three sites for the weekend. What’s in it for CFC?  Statewide visibility, economic impact on the Spartanburg area, and a great opportunity to take a dent out of the cost of installing permanent lighting at the CFC Complex. With everyone’s help over this weekend, CFC will be well on its way to “Turning on the Lights” at our complex.

Monday, October 6
During the 9 games played at the CFC Complex on Saturday, CFC’s concession stand brought in $319! This one day of volunteer effort more than covers the monthly electrical bill of the clubhouse which averages about $212/month (lights, heat, AC, hot water heater, beverage coolers and machines). Thank you Nan, Pam and Tina for coordinating the concession stand and thanks to all of you who have volunteered. You are making a difference!
